CONGREGATIONAL is a new performance project from Birmingham artist & vocalist Fatt Butcher, imagining the possibilities of choral music performance for nightclubs. Exploring the nightclub as a queer spiritual space and the transcendental powers of amyl nitrate, this R&D performance considers ritual, ceremony and the power of collective sound.
Heralded by critics as an ‘incredible vocal powerhouse’ (West End Best Friend) and ‘accelerating the decline of humanity’ by trolls on Twitter, Fatt has created a series of newly composed hymns for the dancefloor, complete with poppers. The piece is performed by a 12 strong live choir of LGBTQ+ vocalists and composed by Fatt Butcher in collaboration with Nicky Harris & Tobre.
The project has just completed its first R&D stage, with its first performance at Fierce Festival, Birmingham on 19th October 2024.
Supported by Arts Council England with additional support from Fierce Festival, Cambridge Junction, B:Music & Wysing Arts Centre.
